National Ribbon Skirt Day

This day is inspired by the experience of Isabella Kulak, a student in Saskatchewan who identifies as Indigenous and was not accepted for wearing a ribbon skirt to a "formal dress day" at her elementary school.

Ribbon skirts are traditionally worn by First Nations and Métis peoples and represent a direct connection to Mother Earth. They are typically worn for special occasions including ceremony, weddings, graduations and other important life events.

In DSB1, students and staff wear their ribbon skirts and shirts as we collectively celebrate each learner by providing opportunities to build a sense of belonging.
