There has been another devastating confirmation of approximately 93 unmarked graves, this time near the St. Joseph’s Mission Residential School. The school operated from 1891 until 1981.
We grieve for the children who were forced to attend residential schools and for those who never returned home.
The growing tally of confirmations further affirms the lived experiences and oral stories of Survivors and communities.
The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation continues to advocate for the Federal and provincial governments, medical institutions, and Catholic entities to provide open and accountable records access. This access will facilitate the work of identifying unmarked graves and begin the healing and reconciliation journey.
Support for former residential school students and those affected are available through the National Indian Residential School Crisis Line: 1-866-925-4419.
